Caroline Hawkins

Creative Director, Oxford Scientific Films

Caroline Hawkins is an award-winning filmmaker who joined OSF in 2004 after a 13-year freelance career as a director. She is the creator of the international hit Meerkat Manor.  

Always keen to set trends she seeks out the unconventional, whether that’s in subject matter or in storytelling approach. Examples being the Australian Academy Award-winning Magical Land of Oz narrated by Barry Humphries, Dogs Might Fly for Sky1 and the four-season dramatised documentary series Fatal Attractions for Animal Planet US. 

She produced her first feature film in 2008, Meerkat Manor: The Story Begins for Discovery Studios and The Weinstein Company. In 2012 she led OSF’s move into 3D with Meerkats 3D followed by Pandas 3D -The Journey Home, the IMAX version of which was screened throughout North America and Europe. 

In 2019 she was nominated for a BAFTA for Driven: The Billy Monger Story (BBC). The film was also shortlisted for a Grierson and a Broadcast award.  

Her most recent documentary series Murder in the Pacific (BBC) has been shortlisted for a 2003 Grierson Award while Secrets of the Elephants, which she co-exec’d with James Cameron and Lucinda Axelsson has been nominated for two Primetime EMMYs.
